Representing our community in the devolution process
Burlescombe Parish Council is making sure the needs of our community are heard during this process that could radically change who delivers crucial services to our residents.

Devolution is the national Government’s plan to give more powers to local areas while simplifying the local government structure.
In our area, it would see Mid Devon District Council dissolved, and their responsibilities taken on by a new unitary council that covers a far wider area. You can read the latest joint statement from district councils on the MDDC website.
For Burlescombe Parish Council, the impacts are far from clear, but we feel it is vital to represent our community’s views throughout this process. The Devon Association of Local Councils (DALC) and the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), will play a crucial role in representing parish councils as devolution becomes a reality.
DALC recently asked for parish councils to send a one-page summary to make sure they understand our communities and the challenges and concerns of the Parish Councils that represent them. We have submitted ours and you can see it below.
We will keep you updated as it becomes clearer what devolution and local government reorganisation will mean for us all.
