What we can all do to prepare for emergencies
Lewis Dyson from MDDC Emergency Planning spoke to the council on the topic of Community Emergency Hubs at their meeting on 9 September. While the council explores this, and other steps to prepare the community for emergencies, there are things residents can do to ensure they know what to do.

Lewis Dyson explained how Community Hubs are safe, local places where people can come together during an emergency. They allow communities to share information, support one another, and take safe, practical action until emergency services arrive.
The Council is exploring creating hubs for our parish. Once the council been able to confirm locations, we’ll communicate widely.

In the meantime, you can create a household plan and see the government Prepare website for more advice to help you prepare for emergencies such as power cuts or flooding.
You can also report potential hazards such as blocked drains and overgrown vegetation to Devon County Council, to help reduce the risk of flooding and other issues.
