A successful Spring Clean-Up Day

On Sunday 26 April, volunteers and councillors gathered in Burlescombe and Westleigh to take on some small tasks to look after our villages.

About 25 members of the community and 6 councillors all put in a good shift, getting the equivalent of about 77hrs work done across Burlescombe and Westleigh. It was great to have some young people involved too.

We cleaned the matting in Westleigh Park, cleared weeds and leaves from along the pavement, and gave the phone box a little clean.

The Old Railway Line has had a bit of a tidy – you can actually see the beautiful view from the bench now, the buddleia has been cleared from the old brickwork and other areas given a trim and a tidy.

We also got to have a chat and a snack (courtesy of the quarry) which is always nice. We’ll do these little sessions every now and again to take care of where we live, so keep an eye out for the next opportunity!

Anyone who would be willing to give a little time and their skills on the odd occasion, can sign up to be on our volunteer list – we’ll simply circulate small jobs that need doing to the group to see if anyone is able to help – no commitment or pressure. Email cllr.tsara.smith@burlescombeparishcouncil.gov.uk to ask to be added to the list.
