Commemorating VE Day in Burlescombe Parish
On 8 May 2025, it is the 80th anniversary of VE Day, when we celebrate 80 years since the end of World War II in Europe.

The day is an important reminder of the sacrifices made by ordinary men, women and animals – sacrifices that secured our freedom from fascism. VE Day 80 is a tribute to them and also a powerful reminder of the need to stand against those who attempt to erode people’s hard-fought freedoms.
Communities all over the country will celebrate and commemorate the occasion in their own ways. Flags will be raised, bells will ring, pipes will be played and beacons will be lit. See www.ve80.com for more information about events across the UK and beyond.
Burlescombe Parish Council is securing a special VE80 flag that will be raised over St Mary’s Church in Burlescombe on the occasion.
If any residents would like to arrange other activities to commemorate VE Day, please contact clerk@burlescombeparishcouncil.gov.uk to let us know what you want to do and we will support in any way we are able to.
